— ABOUT THE MUSICALS —
Nunsense - begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth-grade production of “Grease.” Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.

Nunsense A-Men! – the same exact show but with a twist. All the nuns are portrayed by male musical comedy performers. Think of it as “Mrs. Doubtfire enters the Convent.” Done totally seriously, this show is, to quote a critic, "no drag".

— AVAILABLE ROLES NUNSENSE and NUNSENSE A-MEN! —
Characters ages are not set in stone. Actors should consider roles if they feel they can represent the age ranges listed.

  • Sister Mary Regina - 40+

Mother Superior - Outrageous, quick-witted, knows how to get a laugh, tries to convince you that she is strict, but everyone knows that her “bark is worse than her bite.”

Vocal range:

Female - F(3)-D(5) Mezzo or Alto range, Jazz/Swing style.

Male - Baritone-Bass

  • Sister Mary Hubert:, 30-45

Kind, always tries to be understanding and diplomatic, teaches the Novices the ground rules, and is supposed to be dignified - but with the slightest bit of encouragement, she is ready to kick up her heels.

Vocal range:

Female - F(3)-C(5) Mezzo or Alto range, Gospel style.

Male - Baritone-Tenor

  • Sister Robert Anne: Female, 30-50

A tough streetwise nun who has a heart of gold, adored by kids because she speaks their language, a constant source of aggravation for Mother Superior.

Vocal range: Female - F#(3)-F(5) Mezzo or Alto range, Belter/ballad style.

Male - Baritone-Tenor

  • Sister Mary Amnesia: Female, 20-40

The picture of innocence, lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head, can't remember her past, and so she looks at each day with a childlike joy, has a puppet alter ego named Sister Mary Annette (ventriloquism and puppet experience are a plus but not required).

Vocal range: Female - G(3)-D(6) High Soprano - Broadway / Country

Male - Tenor

  • Sister Mary Leo (Supporting): Female, 25-40

A former professional dancer, always eager to display her talent, impressionable, entered the convent to become the first ballerina nun. Pointe work a plus but not required. (We will make you look like a professional.)

Vocal range:

Female - Mezzo

Male - Baritone-Tenor
