We are excited to announce auditions for our production of SpongeBob, the Musical! We are seeking talented actors
9 yrs and older to bring the beloved Bikini Bottom characters to life on stage. Please note this is a mainly adult cast with young actors under 13 being placed in the ensemble. This is the full version of the musical and not a Kids, or Junior version.

Rehearsal schedule will be mainly weekday evenings with a few Saturdays. Dates will be determined after the first meeting with the cast and production team.

— ABOUT THE PLAY —
​When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.

— AVAILABLE ROLES —
SpongeBob SquarePants- (18 or over) Gender Neutral - Sponge (aplysina fistularis): Bright, cheery, and always optimistic. Positivity is his most significant trait. Always labeled as a “simple sponge”. He wants to prove he’s good enough to be the hero and save Bikini
Bottom. Goofy and lovable. He has a distinct voice, laugh, and walk. Actor Requirements: vocal stamina, physical stamina, ability to develop and sustain “character voice”. Unafraid to be over the top and larger than life. Moves well Vocal Requirements if male: (Tenor) Strong pop lead singer, not afraid to take risks musically. Must be a strong part singer.
Patrick Star - (18 or over) Gender Neutral / Starfish: SpongeBob’s silly and dense Seastar best friend. Bumbling, lazy, and clueless, but lovable. He just wants someone to listen to what he has to say and take him seriously. He gets sucked into becoming the leader of a cult of sardines when they show him some of the respect and attention that he’s been craving. Has a distinct voice. Actor Requirements: ability to develop and sustain a character voice Vocal Requirements if Male (Tenor/Baritone) strong pop lead singer, has gospel/operatic moments, must be a strong part singer.
Sandy Cheeks- (Teen or Adult) Female / Squirrel: a brainy Texan squirrel who is SpongeBob’s most trusted ally. By using her vast knowledge and brilliant inventions she aids him in stopping the deadly volcano. Tough as nails, knows karate, energetic, strong, positive, and has a Texan southern accent. Vocal requirements: strong belt/ mixed pop voice, strong parts singer, Texas twang

​Squidward Tentacles- (18 or over) Gender Neutral / Squid: SpongeBob and Patrick Patrick’s cranky clarinet playing Neighbor. Has a gloomy outlook on life, being labeled as a loser by the citizens of Bikini Bottom. He believes the world is a horrible place, filled with despair, but nonetheless dreams of becoming a fa mous stage star and is willing to do anything to achieve his big break, as a distinctive, nasal whiny voice. Acting requirements: the ability to develop and sustain a character voice, moves very
well. Basic tap dance. Vocal Requirements if Male - (Baritone) lead singer. Needs to be vocally adept at adding character voicing into the singing.
Eugene Krabs (Mr. Krabs)- (Adult) Male / Crab: The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab restaurant. Money hungry employer of SpongeBob and Squidward, Pearl‘s father. Loud, boisterous, bossy, and gruff. Acting requirements: the ability to develop and sustain a character voice. Vocal Requirements: (Baritone) lead singer.
Pearl Krabs- (Teen or Adult) Female / Whale: Mr. Krabs teenage whale daughter. Wants to be independent. She’s a huge fan of the rock band The Electric Skates. Vocal requirements: (Mezzo-Soprano) Lead singer, strong belt/ mix, lots of gospel and pop overtones.
Sheldon Plankton- (18 or over) Male / bacterial algae protozoa: the evil scheming owner of the chum bucket who has plans for world domination and uses the Mount humongous in pending doom to his advantage. Comically evil, and over the top expressive. Actor requirements: moves well, ability to develop and sustain an exaggerated “evil genius” speaking voice. Vocal requirements: (baritone) lead singer, rap skills

Karen Plankton- (18 or over) Female / Supercomputer: Plankton‘s computer wife, secretary type, snarky, realizes that aiding her husband and his evil plan will put a spark back into their relationship. Vocal requirements: (Mezzo-Soprano)
Patchy the Pirate- (Teen or Adult) Male / Pirate: The pirate president of the SpongeBob Squarepants fan club. Eager to meet and see his idol on stage. Sings about the trials and tribulations of pirate life. He exists outside of the world of the musical's story. Breaking the fourth wall he directly speaks to the audience. Gruff, identifiable, pirate voice. Actor requirements: Ability to command the stage and hype up the audience. Ability to develop and sustain a character voice. Moves well. Vocal Requirements: (Baritone) Featured Soloist, Strong falsetto.
Perch Perkins- (18 or over) Male / Fish: head anchor of the bikini bottom news TV broadcast Rich, expressive, smooth, “anchorman” voice Vocal requirements: (Bass Range)

Mayor of Bikini Bottom- (Adult) Female / Fish: the overbearing mayor of bikini bottom has no solution to the impending
Had a negative outlook on the impending doom of bikini bottom and eruption of Mount humongous.
Mrs. Puff- (18 or over) Female / Pufferfish: SpongeBob's teacher at boating school. Had a negative outlook on the impending doom of bikini bottom.

Larry the Lobster- (Teen or Adult) Male / Lobster: a muscular lobster, the Mayor’s bodyguard. Acting requirements: the ability to develop and sustain a character voice, has the speaking voice of a surfer dude.
Old Man Jenkins- (18 or over) Male / Old Fish: a cranky old fish, who leads an angry mob against Sandy for being a land creature.
Acting requirements: the ability to develop and sustain an “old man character voice” and an “old man” exaggerated walk with a cane.
The Electric Skates (3)- Stingrays: (Teen or Adult) Male - A famous rock band composed of three members that is hired to perform bikini bottoms benefit concert. Stubborn, Egotistic, self important, bullies Squidward. Acting requirements: Moves well, TBD if they will use skateboards, wheelies, rollerblades, or scooters in the show. Vocal Requirements: Featured Rock! Trio. Good part singing.
French Narrator- Gender Neutral - Narrates the atmosphere and interactions of Bikini Bottom throughout the show. Ideally should emulate the unaffected and soothing narration voice we hear in nature documentaries or from the original TV series. Acting requirements: the ability develop and sustain a French accent character voice
Gary- (will be played by young actor under 12 - physical size will play a role in casting) Snail: SpongeBob's favorite pet Snail.

Security Guards (2)- two guards that kick Patchy and the other pirates off stage
Johnny the Bartender- owner of a bar in Bikini Bottom

Ensemble Groups ( Ensemble will consist of all ages and most of the characters listed above will double as ensemble)
Bikini Bottom Citizens (ensemble)- Background fish that paint the landscape of Bikini Bottom. Bikini Bottom Day, No Control, When the Going Gets Tough, Tomorrow Is, Best Day Ever, Finale.
Cowboys (ensemble) - Background singers and dancers in “Bikini Bottom Day” during Sandys entrance.
Planktons Dancers (ensemble) - Background singers and dancers in “When the Going Gets Tough”
Simple Sponges (ensemble) -Background singers and dancers in “Simple Sponge”
Sardine Devotees (ensemble): A group of impressionable sardines that become infatuated with Patrick and his ideologies. They think Patrick Star will save them and create a cult in Patrick’s name.
Pirates (ensemble): A group of scurvy rapscallions that Patchy the Pirate finds at a nearby dive bar. Background singers and dancers in “Poor Pirates”
Sea Anemone Chorus Line (ensemble) Background singers and dancers in “I'm Not A Loser”

Song Preparation: Prepare a 30-second to one-minute cut of a song that showcases your vocal range and personality.

Karaoke Track: Bring a karaoke track for your audition. We will have a Bluetooth speaker with an aux input available for use. A song from the show is acceptable or we recommend one of the following:

There will also be a shore movement sequence. Please dress to move.
